Scar Revision Katy TX

All injuries, whether by trauma or surgery, can cause scarring to the skin. Sometimes, scars can heal poorly and lead to significant disability, pain, or disfigurement.

The two types of abnormal scars are hypertrophic scars and keloid scars. Hypertrophic scars are much more common and involve excess scar formation within the borders of the wound. They can be painful, itchy, and have a raised/red appearance. Keloid scars, on the other hand, tend to run in families and can be associated with relatively minor trauma such as ear piercings or tattoos. Keloids can be more aggressive and proliferate beyond the borders of the original wound. Like hypertrophic scars, they can be painful and itchy. More than hypertrophic scars, keloid scars can recur after excision.

If you have a concerning scar, please call our office at 832-232-4263 to schedule an appointment with one of our board certified plastic surgeons.
