What Is Trigger Finger?

Published on January 27, 2017

There are a lot of parts in the hand that can become damaged, including the sheath that covers the tendons in your fingers. When this sheath becomes inflamed and swollen, it causes a condition called stenosing tenosynovitis, more commonly known as trigger finger.

The name “trigger finger” comes from the sensation the condition causes in your fingers. When the sheath of the tendon is inflamed, it makes it difficult to bend the finger, causing your finger to catch and release quickly similar to the sensation when you activate a trigger

If left untreated, trigger finger can progress and can lead to further finger and hand issues. At the Hand and Plastic Surgery Center of Katy, we strive to provide restorative hand care that helps to maintain your quality of life.
